Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos faces tough defensive choices for Saturday's Championship match against Burnley. The Swans, third in the table with 11 points, conceded three goals in their last outing at Southampton, a 3-1 defeat where captain Ben Cabango played the full 90 minutes and received criticism for slowing play and missing passes.
Defensive options
Cabango is still expected to start, but Matos could consider a change. Stephen Welsh and Filip Lissah have previously partnered in central defence, with Lissah also covering at right-back for Josh Key. That pairing conceded just one goal during their time together, offering a potential alternative. Lawrence Vigouroux starts in goal, with the back four likely completed by Key, Cabango, Welsh, and Josh Tymon.
Attacking form
In attack, Adam Idah and Zān Vipotnik are the primary options. Vipotnik earned and converted a penalty in the Southampton loss, making it unlikely Matos will drop Idah, who also scored from the spot. The pair will be supported by a midfield of Marko Stamenic, Stephen Eustaquio, and wide players Melker Widell and Elijah Just, with Moussa Yeo also in the starting eleven.
Burnley's absentees
Burnley arrive with significant injury problems of their own. Jacob Bruun Larsen is definitely out, while Anel Ahmedhodzic is rated as fifty-fifty. Josh Cullen, Hannibal, Enock Agyei, and Jaydon Banel are all unavailable. Dastan Satpayev is being treated at parent club Chelsea, and a group including Ben Amos, Jordan Beyer, and Michael Obafemi are either injured or excluded. Their manager has minimal Championship experience, adding pressure despite the club's recent Premier League status.
Swansea's recent form reads two wins, two draws, and one loss from their last five. They next face 19th-placed Lincoln City away on September 19th, a game you can preview on our fixtures page. The full squad list, including substitutes like Andy Fisher and Tiago Parente, is available on our squad page. With Cameron Burgess and Gonçalo Franco currently sidelined, Matos's selections will be key to maintaining their position near the top of the standings.
