Swansea City secured a dominant 3-0 win away at Derby County to maintain their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign. The victory at Pride Park lifts the Swans to third in the league standings with seven points from three games.
Joseph Opoku gave the visitors a dream start, scoring after just 100 seconds. Jisung Eom doubled the lead before halftime, and Ronald added a late third in stoppage time to seal a comprehensive victory in front of 1,300 traveling supporters. The clean sheet means Swansea have now conceded only one goal this season, claiming a +4 goal difference.
Swansea City set the tone immediately. Opoku's early strike came from a swift attacking move, putting Derby on the back foot from the first whistle. The forward's involvement was cut short, however, as he was forced off injured after a 50-50 challenge in the 23rd minute, replaced by Moussa Yeo.
Before the break, Adam Idah's header forced a save from Derby goalkeeper Jacob Zetterstrom, and Eom was quickest to react to the rebound to make it 2-0. Derby boss John Eustace responded with a triple substitution at halftime, introducing Rhian Brewster, Sam Szmodics, and Joe Ward, but the home side struggled to break down a resolute Swansea defense.
Swansea's defensive discipline was key to their third consecutive positive result, a run of form reading win-draw-win. With captain Ben Cabango missing due to a heel injury, Jay Fulton took the armband and Stephen Welsh partnered Filip Lissah in central defense.
Their organization was tested in the second half. Josh Key made an important block to deny Bobby Clark, and Stephen Welsh produced a telling intervention in his own penalty area. Later, Stephen Eustaquio and substitute Zan Vipotnik combined for a covering challenge to snuff out another threat. Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux was well protected throughout.
The three points are significant for Swansea City's early season ambitions. They now sit third in the Championship, just two points behind leaders Charlton Athletic. With five goals scored and only one conceded, they have built a solid platform.
Managerial changes saw Melker Widell and Eom come into the starting lineup, while Elijah Just dropped to the bench. The team showed adaptability, especially after Opoku's early exit.
Beyond the goalscorers, several players contributed to a fluid attacking performance. Yeo provided a low pass for Vipotnik in the second half, but the Slovenian's effort was saved by Zetterstrom. Marko Stamenic headed a Josh Key cross wide at the far post.
The third goal was a fitting finale. Ronald, who had come on for Eom late on, applied the finishing touch in added time to delight the away end. This squad depth is a positive sign ahead of a busy period, with details on all players available on our squad page.
