Vitor Matos has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for September. The Swansea City head coach earned this recognition following a period where his team climbed to the top of the league standings.
Matos is nominated together with Mark Robins of Stoke City, Nuno Espirito Santo of West Ham United, and Lincoln City's co-head coaches Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw. The award recipient will be revealed at 06:00 BST on Friday, 9 October.
Swansea's September surge
Swansea's nomination is based on earning 10 points from a possible 15 during the month. Wins against Watford, Burnley and Lincoln, which featured a 2-1 comeback victory at Lincoln on 19 September, helped push the team into first position.
Matos credited these outcomes for the nomination. "Swansea took 10 points in September to move to the top of the Championship table," he stated.
The competition
The other candidates also recorded strong performances in September. Stoke remained undefeated with four victories from five games under Mark Robins, moving up to seventh place. West Ham found the net 18 times in their five fixtures, while Lincoln's leadership pair steered the team through a difficult spell.
Swansea now aims to preserve their place at the top, beginning with a match at home against Norwich City this Saturday. The manager of the month winner will be announced shortly before that next league game kicks off.
