Swansea City have completed the signing of midfielder Tom Iorpenda from Huddersfield Town on a three-year contract. The 21-year-old becomes the club's ninth acquisition of the summer transfer window, with the deal including an option for a further 12 months.

Iorpenda could be in line for his debut when the Swans, who currently sit first in the Championship with 10 points from four games, host Watford on Tuesday. He will wear the number 16 shirt for his new side.

Tom Iorpenda is a 21-year-old midfielder who developed in the academy at Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Huddersfield Town in 2022. He made his senior debut for the Terriers in an FA Cup tie against Manchester City, a moment he described as "amazing." Iorpenda said, "Playing against some of the players I grew up playing with on FIFA was mad, so to be on the pitch with them was crazy." He made 15 appearances for Huddersfield in total.

Last season was a breakthrough one for the young player, spent on loan at Notts County. He featured 53 times for the Magpies at Meadow Lane, scoring three goals and playing a key part in their promotion to League One via the play-offs at Wembley. His performances were recognised with both the Fans' Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards.

The addition of Iorpenda provides manager Vitor Matos with another option in the centre of the park. His arrival comes as Swansea enjoy a strong start to the campaign, having scored seven goals and conceded just one in their opening four matches.

His versatility and experience from a full season in the Football League will be assets. The Swans' impressive defensive record and league position are detailed in the current standings.

Iorpenda's signing continues a busy summer of recruitment aimed at sustaining a promotion push. "I’m really excited to the join the club. It’s a great opportunity," the midfielder stated upon his arrival. His move is seen as a strategic piece of business for his development and for the team's immediate needs.

The team will be without the sidelined Cameron Burgess and Gonçalo Franco for that contest, with their status available on the injuries list. Tom Iorpenda's contract runs until the summer of 2029.
