Swansea City are on the verge of breaking their transfer record with the signing of New Zealand winger Elijah Just. The Championship club have agreed a multi-million pound deal with Motherwell, potentially eclipsing last summer's £5million sale of Scotland international Lennon Miller to Udinese. Just, 26, is expected to complete his move within the next 48 hours after impressing during New Zealand's World Cup campaign this summer.

Who is Elijah Just?

The 26-year-old winger joined Motherwell last year after spending most of his career in Denmark. He was shortlisted for the PFA Scotland’s player of the year award and stood out for the Steelmen last season. Just will link up with familiar faces at Swansea, including Marko Stamenic and Stephen Welsh, who was on loan at Fir Park last term. His arrival comes as Swansea prepare for their Championship campaign after finishing 11th last season with 64 points (18W-10D-18L), scoring 57 goals and conceding 59.

Why this signing matters

Swansea manager Vitor Matos has been active in the transfer market, bringing in Stephen Welsh and Moussa Yeo earlier this summer. Just’s addition strengthens the attacking options, especially with Ethan Galbraith’s departure to Stoke City and Goncalo Franco’s three-month injury absence. Matos praised his new signings after their pre-season draw with Holstein Kiel, saying, "I'm really impressed with both, and they both played really well. It's also good now that the team will also start to understand them as well."

What’s next for Swansea City?

With the deal for Just nearing completion, Swansea will focus on finalizing their pre-season preparations. The Swans are currently on tour in Austria, where they drew 1-1 with Holstein Kiel. Matos is also keen to integrate academy players, as seen in their recent friendly. The club will now turn their attention to their Championship opener, aiming to improve on last season’s 11th-place finish, 31 points behind leaders Coventry.
