Swansea City aim to cement their place at the summit of the Championship with a positive result at Lincoln City in their final fixture before the international break. The Swans sit first in the league on 17 points after eight games, holding a two-point lead over West Ham.
Vitor Matos has a largely fit squad to choose from for the trip to the ProAmpac Stadium. Josh Key is being assessed after coming off with a hamstring issue in the win over Burnley, while Cameron Burgess remains sidelined. Ross Stewart is also unavailable but is on course to return after the upcoming break. For the latest on player availability, check our injuries page.
Recent form and a familiar foe
Swansea's strong start is built on a resilient defence and a potent press. They lead the Championship this season with 65 high turnovers and 14 shot-ending high turnovers, a key part of their tactical identity. Their recent form shows three wins, one draw, and one loss from their last five matches, putting them on a two-game winning streak.
This will be the first league meeting between the sides in 21 years, but they faced each other just days ago in a cup tie. The last encounter ended in a 2-1 victory for Swansea on September 19th, with goals from Moussa Kounfolo Yeo and Stephen Eustáquio overturning an early Lincoln penalty.
Matos acknowledged the challenge Lincoln presents. "All the games are different," the Swansea boss said. "Lincoln are different in many ways, but we've also found that we've played against more vertical or more direct teams and teams playing with a back five."
The Lincoln challenge
Lincoln, last season's League One champions, have adapted well to the second tier. They sit just three points behind Swansea in the table, having kept four clean sheets and suffering only two defeats in their first seven games. However, they are yet to win a Championship match at home this season.
Chris Cohen, part of the Lincoln coaching staff, was full of praise for the visitors. "They’re a top team, have hit a real run of form over the past few months and started the season incredibly well," he said.
The match will be officiated by Anthony Backhouse, who has been an EFL referee since 2017. He took charge of four Swansea matches last season, including their 2-0 home win over Oxford United in December. Richard Woodward and Daniel Woodward will be his assistants, with Aaron Bannister as fourth official.
Swansea will be looking to their attacking players to make the difference. Adam Idah is the club's top scorer this season with three goals in eight appearances, while the team has netted 13 times in the league so far. More detailed player contributions can be found in our stats section.
A win would send Swansea into the break in a commanding position. The squad will then have a brief period to regroup before the relentless Championship schedule resumes.
