Stephen Eustaquio's first goal for Swansea City secured a comeback victory that sent them to the top of the Championship. The 2-1 win at Lincoln City on Saturday moved the Swans two points clear at the summit with 17 points from eight games.
Eustaquio, the Canada international who joined in the summer, struck the decisive goal six minutes after the restart. His effort from the edge of the area took a deflection to beat the goalkeeper, turning the game after Moussa Yeo had cancelled out Reeco Hackett's first-half penalty for Lincoln.
"It took us time to settle, it was a very tough game," Eustaquio said. He acknowledged the physical challenge posed by the home side's direct approach, which included long throws and balls into the box. The midfielder believed the chance for victory was still there at half-time if his side began the second period well.
Yeo's close-range finish from Melker Widell's cross provided the platform. "We showed real toughness and togetherness," Eustaquio added, praising the collective effort to see out the win. Once ahead, Swansea defended resolutely with goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, captain Ben Cabango and Marko Stamenic all playing key roles.
The result extends Swansea's strong start to the season, which has seen them score 13 goals and concede just six. Their recent form reads three wins, a draw and one loss from the last five outings. The team's overall stats show they have averaged 2.1 goal minutes per game this season, a sign of their attacking efficiency.
Cameron Burgess remains sidelined, but the squad's depth is being tested positively. Adam Idah leads the scoring charts with three goals this term. The immediate focus is maintaining momentum after a win defined by resilience, with attention now turning to their next fixtures, a home match against Preston North End.
