Swansea City are 'seriously considering' appointing former striker Michu as their new sporting director, according to reports in Italy. The Spaniard remains a firm favourite with Swansea City fans. Michu, of course, is revered by fans in SA1, following his spell with the club during their days in the Premier League. Having signed from Rayo Vallecano for £2m in the summer of 2012, he went on to score 22 goals in his first season at the club. They would include two against Arsenal at the Emirates, another against eventual Premier League champions Manchester United and a goal in the semi-final of the League Cup against reigning European champions Chelsea. Another followed in the League Cup final against Bradford at Wembley as he helped the Swans to the first piece of major silverware in their history. Having helped the club into Europe, he was also on the scoresheet during their famous 3-0 win over Valencia at the Mestalla. A Spain call-up followed, but unfortunately that was as good as Michu's career got - with injuries ultimately taking their toll. However, those initial two seasons were more than enough to endear him to Swansea fans. The club have been searching for a new sporting director since Montague left back in September. Steve Brown, the former director of scouting at Manchester United, had previously been in the running for the job - with the ex-Everton man believed to be keen on the move to south Wales. However, the club are believed to have moved away from him as a target. Former Rosenborg chief Mikael Dorsin was another name linked previously. Michu had been due to return to the Swansea.com Stadium recently for a charity match last month. However, he had to pull out of managing a European XI in aid of Joseph’s Smile due to it clashing with an important fixture in Burgos' promotion push.
