Swansea City defender Ben Cabango has been disqualified from driving for six months after admitting using a handheld mobile phone while behind the wheel. The 26-year-old Wales international was caught on January 9 on the A4067 in Swansea, near the Mumbles Road junction with Brynmill Terrace.
What happened?
Cabango, who came through the Newport County AFC academy, pleaded guilty through the single justice procedure. At Swansea Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £640, ordered to pay a £256 victim surcharge, and £120 in prosecution costs, totaling £1,016. The full amount must be paid by August 24.
Why it matters for Swansea City
The centre-half has been a key figure for Swansea City, helping the team finish 11th in the Championship last season with 64 points (18W-10D-18L). His absence from driving could impact his ability to travel for training or matches, though the club has not yet commented on any potential arrangements.
What comes next?
Cabango, who has 16 caps for Wales, will serve his six-month driving ban. The club’s pre-season preparations are underway, with Swansea aiming to improve after scoring 57 goals and conceding 59 last season, finishing 31 points behind leaders Coventry.
