Swansea City's summer transfer business is already paying off after their wingers delivered a dominant 3-0 away win at Derby County. The victory sends Vitor Matos's side to the top of the Championship with 10 points from their first four games, claiming a recent form of WWDW.

All three goals at Pride Park came from wide players, a stark contrast to last season's struggles. In the previous campaign, only six of Swansea's 57 goals were scored by wingers, with striker Zan Vipotnik accounting for 40% of the total. The club's deliberate summer recruitment of wingers Moussa Yeo and Joseph Opoku, alongside the versatility of New Zealand international Eli Just, was designed to address that imbalance.

Joseph Opoku opened the scoring within 90 seconds, finishing a move set up by Eom Ji-sung. It was Opoku's second goal of the campaign. Eom Ji-sung, one of three changes to the starting lineup, then scored his first goal since April. Ronald came off the bench to add a third just six minutes after his introduction. The trio's efforts mean Swansea's wingers have now scored four goals this season, a promising early return.

Moussa Yeo also made an impact after replacing the injured Opoku, who suffered a cut foot. Yeo registered five touches in the opposition box, more than any other player on the pitch. Manager Vitor Matos will hope Opoku's issue does not rule him out for long, especially with key defenders Cameron Burgess, Gonçalo Franco, and Ben Cabango currently sidelined.

The impact from substitutes was a key theme. "That's massive," said Vitor Matos. "It happened, the players coming on from the bench and having an impact, at Stoke as well." He noted similar moments in the game against Birmingham where tactical changes led to goals, stating this shows the health of the squad. Matos admitted he would prefer to have a selection headache due to this newfound depth.

This depth extends to the striker position. Swansea were already 2-0 up before last season's top scorer Zan Vipotnik even entered the pitch. If Vipotnik remains beyond Tuesday's transfer deadline, Matos will have a choice between him, Adam Idah, and Ross Stewart.

The clean sheet was as important as the goals. The centre-back partnership of Stephen Welsh and Filip Lissah combined well to deny Derby a single shot on target. Lissah, an academy product who started the season as the starting right-back, has been shuffled across the defence following injuries. The Czech Republic youth international won all but one of his nine duels against experienced forwards.

Matos insisted clean sheets are massive for the team's mindset. "We need to defend well to be able to attack better," he said, pleased with how his players fought in hard moments and stayed compact. This defensive resilience has been a foundation of their strong start, with the team conceding just one goal in four league games for a +6 goal difference.

The immediate focus shifts to maintaining this momentum. Swansea City's next test is a home fixture against Wrexham on Saturday, September 5th. Wrexham currently sit 11th in the table, making it another significant challenge for the early-season pace-setters.
