Swansea City Under-21s extended their unbeaten run with a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Charlton Athletic in the Professional Development League on Monday. Yori Griffith struck the decisive goal deep into stoppage time to complete a turnaround after the hosts had trailed at the break.

Shia-Lee Burnham put Charlton ahead in the 24th minute at the Joma High Performance Centre. Swansea levelled from the penalty spot through Ellis McMillan with 13 minutes remaining, before Griffith's late intervention secured all three points. Thomas Woodward also scored twice for the young Swans.

Wright praises dominant second-half display

Manager Anthony Wright was pleased with the response after half-time. "I’m really pleased with the outcome of the game," Wright said.

He highlighted the team's increased control, noting they created numerous chances and hit the woodwork five times. "We had a lot of dominance and plenty of entries into the final third, but the players stuck at it and dug in," he added. The performance continues a positive period for the club's academy, mirroring the first team's strong Championship position of second place with 23 points from 12 games, having recorded seven wins, two draws and three losses. The senior side's recent form of three wins and two defeats from their last five games includes a heavy 5-0 loss to QPR last Saturday, but they remain just two points behind leaders Middlesbrough.

Unbeaten run continues in Premier League Cup

The result maintains the Under-21s' momentum ahead of a Premier League Cup clash away at Birmingham City on Friday evening. They are looking to protect their unbeaten start in that competition.

This youthful success provides a bright note as the senior squad prepares to host Blackburn Rovers this Saturday, aiming to bounce back from that 5-0 defeat to QPR last time out. The development side's next test is that trip to St. Andrew's.
