Swansea City Reject Hull City's £20m Bid for Zan Vipotnik
Swansea City has rejected a £20m bid from Hull City for star striker Zan Vipotnik. The Slovenian's future has been the subject of speculation, but the Swans remain resolute in their valuation.
What Happened?
Swansea City has rejected a £20m bid from Hull City for Zan Vipotnik. The bid is believed to be the first time the Swans' resolve has been tested this summer.
Why It Matters for Swansea City
Vipotnik's future has been the subject of speculation for much of the summer already. The Slovenian netted 25 goals in all competitions for Swansea last season, scooping up the Championship's Golden Boot in the process.
What Comes Next?
Whether Hull return with an improved offer remains to be seen. The 24-year-old's future is likely to remain a big talking point heading into the opening game of the Championship against Stoke City at the weekend.
Swansea City are currently 11th in the Championship, with 64 points from 46 games. They have scored 57 goals and conceded 59, leaving them 31 points behind leaders Coventry. The Swans have been linked with several signings this summer, but the capture of Ross Stewart has not had any bearing on Vipotnik's future, according to boss Vitor Matos.
"We signed Ross because we believe it was an opportunity for us to catch a player with that right type of profile," he said. "It's nothing related to [Vipotnik] leaving or not. It's just what was a good opportunity. He brings leadership in a position where we needed experience of the league. He offers the same spontaneity in terms of the penalty box that Vipi (Vipotnik) has, he offers the same physicality that Adam can offer as well. So I think it's a good combination with what we have at the moment."
