Swansea City returned to winning ways and moved back into the Championship's top two with a 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Swansea.com Stadium. Goals from Adam Idah, Moussa Yeo and substitute Zan Vipotnik secured the points in front of 16,390 fans, extending the Swans' unbeaten home record this season.

Head coach Vitor Matos made four changes to his starting line-up, bringing in Josh Key, Melker Widell, Stephen Eustaquio and Adam Idah. It was the side's fifth game in 15 days. Matos said the squad had to be managed, but the players who came in showed great energy.

Idah and Yeo set the tone

Adam Idah opened the scoring in the 13th minute, converting a chance to notch his third goal of the campaign. The hosts doubled their lead twenty minutes later when Elijah Just found Moussa Yeo, who finished clinically. Burnley goalkeeper Max Weiss had earlier tipped an Idah effort onto the post, but he could do little about either first-half goal.

Swansea's midfield trio of Just, Widell and Eustaquio were described as tireless, controlling the tempo and limiting Burnley's opportunities. Lawrence Vigouroux was called into action just before the break, making an outstanding save to tip a deflected Aaron Ramsey strike onto the crossbar.

Burnley fightback halted

Burnley pulled a goal back in the 58th minute through Largie Ramazani, assisted by Igor Julio. The visitors pressed for an equaliser, but Swansea restored their two-goal cushion ten minutes later. Marko Stamenic played a wonderful pass to substitute Ronald, who laid the ball off for fellow substitute Zan Vipotnik to score.

Ronald almost added a fourth soon after, volleying over the bar after Weiss parried a drive from Just. Melker Widell also saw a deflected strike fly just wide of the post.

What the result means

The three points lift Swansea City to second in the Championship table with 14 points from seven matches. Their recent form reads three wins, one draw and one defeat from the last five outings.

Matos was able to utilise his squad depth, with Filip Lissah, Jay Fulton, Goncalo Franco, Ronald and Vipotnik all entering the fray from the bench. The victory provides a perfect platform before the international break. The Swans' next fixture is a trip to face Lincoln on Saturday, September 19th. Check our fixtures page for the full schedule. Adam Idah's early strike confirmed his status as the club's top scorer this season with three goals.
